Breitling Ref 820.4 long playing gold plated and steel (new old stock)

A gold plated and stainless steel chronograph

Case. Two-body, polished and brushed, lapidated sides, inner dust cover, hooded lugs. Case is in new old stock condition with some light patina in between lugs. Case back has retained retail sticker with original MSRP and model name and ref.

Dial. Satiné champagne with applied yellow gold and black indexes and luminous dots, subsidiary guilloché dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers, outer tachometer graduation. Luminous black "baton" hands. Dial is just perfect.

Movement. Cal. 7736, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating flat balance spring. Watch is new old stock which means that case was never opened and movement was not serviced since originally manufactured.

The Breitling Long Playing was so named because these watches had a longer power reserve than most chronograph of the period. This particular watch comes from a new old stock batch that was kept by Willy Breitling after shutting down the factory in 1978. These watches are time capsule of watches made in the late 60s and early 70s before the quartz crisis.

This particular watch offers a unique opportunity to purchase a Breitling chronograph as it was originally intended to be sold with a case untouched or unpolished which has kept its factory finish and a dial that shows no visible aging.
