A pair of solid eighteen carat yellow gold wrap cufflinks. This pair of unusual and very stylish cufflinks are design to go around the outside of the complete cuff, not seen today. Each cufflink has a sprung hinge at the top of the center bar, which allows one side to open. This can then be passed through the button hole of the shirt, and then snapped shut, forming a complete 'U' shape.
They are beautifully made, and a simple design lending them both applicable to be worn in an evening, and a work place setting. They are made by the luxury Swiss retailer; Gubelin. Gubelin started as a small watchmaker's shop in the mid-eighteenth Century in the Swiss city of Lucerne. By the 1920's they had established themselves as the leading name in luxury retail in Switzerland selling exceptional items of jewellery, and high end watches by brands such as Patek Philippe.
The cufflinks are matte finished through the part that loops around the cuff. They are very easy to use, snap shut, and then have an additional hinged safety hoolk that locks over the area that snaps into the frame. It all sounds rather complicated, but in fact they are very easy to use, wear and comfortable. They help bring the cuff to an elegant point and allow space for the cuff to open up around a watch.
They are both fully signed "750" for eighteen carat gold, and have the makers mark for Gubelin. Swiss made, Circa 1970's.
